The Warragul Country Club was turned into an extravaganza of pink on Wednesday March 30 as 57 women golfers participated in a 3BBB competition to raise money for Breast Cancer Research Trials, 2022.
This annual fundraising event motivated us all to find different ways to celebrate the pink theme, have fun, and to highlight the need for sustained, well-funded research into the causes and triggers of breast cancer in women and men. Carts were decorated, wigs donned and outrageous costumes all made for a fantastic day. For once, golf took second place on a Wednesday!
Afterwards, all the golfers and many other guests gathered for lunch in the Function Room of the Country Club, where we heard from our guest speaker, Ms Leslie Gilham from Breast Cancer Trials, Australia. Raffles, a spinning wheel, local produce and handmade items were on offer. The auction, however, was the highlight of the day, not only for the huge amount of money raised, but for the laughs and jokes that keep us all entertained by our wonderful auctioneer, Carmen Christie, and her assistant Jo De Jong.
We are extremely grateful to the hard work of the Pink Day organising committee, headed by Robyn McGrath, the generosity of the Warragul business community and the Warragul Country Club for providing excellent prizes. A grand total of $7150 was raised.
This brings the current total to $23,524 that the lady golfers have raised for Breast Cancer to date.
