Golf Australia runs two Tournaments per year across regional Victoria in Autumn and Spring. The events are the most popular on the annual Tournament Calendar attracting fields of between 180 – 350 players.
Players at both Country Tournaments compete to win the Ruby McKenzie Trophy, named in the honour of one of Victoria’s greatest country golfers and former VLGU,  Australian Golf Council member and life member of Woodend GC until her death in 1978. The ex-Women’s Golf Victoria office in Elsternwick was purchased through a bequest left by Ruby McKenzie for the VLGU, now Golf Australia.
The Best 36 Hole Nett trophy is named after Vi Teesdale, a former Captain and President of Huntingdale Golf Club. Her expert knowledge of the rules of golf was the reason this trophy is named in her honour.

The Country Club is now advertising for a new Chief Executive.

Club CEO Michael Smairl is moving on from 9th August after 14 years in the position.

“Holding the position as CEO at the club the past 14 years has been life changing for me and my family and has been an absolute privilege to be given the opportunity to be part of the significant changes and growth at the club for over a decade”.  I thank all of the friendly members and committees, all of the amazing Board team over the years, and the fantastic staff for their support over my 14 years” said Michael Smairl.

Michael leaves the club with the full support of the Board who thank him for his significant contribution to our club.  Michael has given 10 weeks notice to allow a smooth transition to the new CEO.  He is then taking some well earned uninterrupted holidays with the family and is then starting a family business in another industry.
