For the last few years our Saturday Golf Members have been running a “Funny Fine Fundraiser” where those who hit bad shot during Saturday’s competition are recognised and required to pay a fine. What began as a laugh between friends has now turned into a fun fundraising effort amongst Members, where the money collected from the fines throughout the year is donated to a local not-for-profit organisation.
Last year’s fines amounted to $622 with the sum being donated to the West Gippsland Hospital’s Oncology Unit, selected by the previous year’s winner, Geoff Matthews.
2023’s recipient of this award was Club CEO, Michael Hodge (pictured below on the left), who will now don the novelty jacket until it is passed on to the next lucky winner in December.
Also pictured below is Kiona Smith (Oncology nurse unit manager) being presented with a cheque by Linda Fowles.
Former Warragul Country Club Champion, Steve Porch, won the Gippsland Senior Classic Tournament with a score of 104 on 30th January 2024 for a second year. This win is testament to Steve’s golfing ability and comes only a few months after he won the VVGA State Championships held at Warragul.
Congratulations to Steve on his outstanding achievement.
